Want to Be Our Editorial Assistant?

We turn four years old this October, and we’re ready for some help. If you’re enthusiastic about publishing and speculative fiction, if you have solid English communication and writing skills, and if you don’t mind taking charge of our social media accounts, let us know. This is a “for-the-love” position; all staff are volunteers so that authors and illustrators can be paid.

The Editorial Assistant has two duties:

  • First reader: Read and respond to our submitters by email, ensuring the Editor-in-Chief sees the strongest submissions.
  • Social media promotion: Maintain the Lackington’s Twitter and Facebook accounts and help grow our readership.

The time commitment isn’t huge, but it will vary—there are two reading periods a year during which you’ll be sorting through submissions. You’ll also be keeping Lackington’s active on social media a few times a week all year round (1-2 hours/week). There’ll be the very odd Skype meeting with the Editor-in-Chief, too.

Please send your application package to The deadline for submitting applications is October 15, 2017, for a November 1 start date. Include a brief cover letter, a CV highlighting relevant experience, and a short list of some of your favourite SFF authors and titles.

Please be prepared for a Skype interview and a story selection exercise if your application finds its way to the top of the pile. (We’ll want to get to know you and check out your eye for good fiction beforehand. Bring your questions!)

Lackington’s welcomes applicants of any nationality, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, age, and dis/ability. Everything will be done online, so our Editorial Assistant can be located anywhere in the world.
