LACKINGTON'S

speculative prose

Ranylt Richildis
Founder and Editor

Ranylt Richildis is a writer, editor, and teacher based in Ottawa, Canada. Her short fiction has appeared in SFF venues such as PodCastle and Strange Horizons, among others. The childhood fiction that shaped her writing (and taste) includes Oscar Wilde’s fairy tales, Lord Valentine’s Castle, Caleb Williams, and the lyrics of Kate Bush—as a grownup and editor, she’s still on the lookout for the textured or the beautifully off-kilter. The happiest things she’s ever done were getting a PhD in literature, living in Europe, and launching Lackington’s. The worst things she’s ever done were not going into a STEM field, and developing an allergy to cats.

M. Bennardo
First Reader and Marketing Manager

M. Bennardo is the writer of short stories in Asimov’s Science Fiction, Beneath Ceaseless Skies, Clarkesworld, Lightspeed, and many others. His story “The Skinner of the Sky” was published in Issue #5 of Lackington’s, and he has been delighted to be first reader since Issue #17. He has recently enjoyed the writing of Jeff VanderMeer, Karin Tidbeck, Téa Obreht, Isabel Allende, Witi Ihimaera, Samanta Schweblin, and Ibi Zoboi. He often looks for stories that balance the speculative against a firm foundation in everyday reality, but he has a decided soft spot for anything with a whiff of the good old-fashioned Gothic.
